Summer in Moses Lake — The Local's Guide to Lake Life
Summer in Moses Lake is all about the water. Here's how locals spend the hot months from June through September.
The lake itself
Boat launches at Cascade Park and Connelly Park. Best summer swim spots are along the west and south shores. Fishing is solid year-round — bass, walleye, perch, crappie. Paddleboards and kayaks rent in town if you don't have your own. Jet skis are popular but keep clear of swimmers.
Parks and outdoor
Cascade Park has playgrounds, a splash pad, and walking trails — the easy default for families. Potholes State Park (15 min south) is the bigger camping and watersports destination. The Sand Dunes Recreation Area (south of town) is unique to the Basin — off-road vehicles on massive sand dunes.
Evening and weekend culture
The Spring Festival in May kicks off the season. Independence Day on the lake is one of the better fireworks shows in the region. The Grant County Fair in August brings rodeo, carnival, and concerts. Most summer evenings, someone is grilling on the lake shore.
What to bring
Sunscreen — the high desert sun is intense. A good cooler for lake days. Water shoes for the rocky shoreline. And a fishing license if you plan to cast. The lake warms up nicely by July and stays swimmable through early September.
